Using PPI treatment with proton pump inhibitors (such as Protonix, Zithromax, and others) with caution in elderly patients (such as the age and risk factors of death in young patients) can increase the risk of bone loss, particularly in young women. Patients should be advised to consult with their doctor about the risks and benefits of PPI treatment during treatment with these medicines.
PPI treatment with proton pump inhibitors (such as Protonix, Zithromax, and others) with renal impairment (creatinine clearance not more than 30 mL/min) or with haemodilatation (as in patients with a history of renal dialysis) can increase the risk of bone loss, particularly in young women.
